New England artist Donna Atkins has always enjoyed drawing, although she didn’t start painting until 1994 when her youngest child entered Kindergarten and her oldest was in elementary school. After a few acrylics lessons, she began to paint at home, developing her own style of folk art.Her designs, which have been referred to as “New England style primitives,” reflect the beauty of that region: the ocean, old homes, pastures, white spire churches, majestic trees, and the ever-changing seasons. Her paintings often convey a longing for “simpler times.” Much of her work incorporates words, old quotations, or verses she pens herself.

Donna is so thankful to her Mom and Dad for teaching, through their example, what a wonderful contribution pets make to our lives (they continue to have a great impact on her life and on her art). The Atkins currently share their home and hearts with two dogs and three cats.

January 25th, 2008

We have added 10 new Ray Hendershot pictures to our line.    They are all gorgeous pictures that will make a great statement in any home.   All very reasonably priced and come in several different color frames.   Here is a short biography on the artist…

  •
  • The Pennsylvania countryside provides the subject matter for this watercolor artist. He is highly regarded for his detailed rural landscapes and antique still life’s. However, he explains, the real subject of his work is not the aging farm buildings, the rustic old mills or the antiquated crocks and jugs. The real subject is their surfaces. “I am intrigued by the texture of a crumbling stone wall, the splintered wood of an old wagon or the way the light reflects off a piece of hand-turned stoneware, the signs of many years of wear and hard use. Over the years, I have developed a number of texturing methods that I feel adequately depict these signs of aging. As a matter of fact, I have written a book about the subject, titled ‘Texture Techniques for Winning Watercolors’, that was released by Northlight Publishing in November of  1999.
